Video Shoot Plan

Location: Town hall Studio
People Needed: Alex Pickering, Dan Haycocks, Darryl Taylor
Equipment Needed: Camera, 3 Point Lighting, Track, Dolly, Jib, Black Backdrop,
Plan: The Plan for Tuesday is to film the studio based footage for the video; this is being done in the town hall studio using the 3 point lighting system. We plan to use our video a Key light, fill light and then a hair light to give extra effect behind the actor, This will give a ghost light effect for the actor.
When videoing we are going to run through the video multiple times videoing in different styles. The plan is to at least go through once doing only close up shots and then again doing long shots. This way when editing we will have a variety of different shots to edit between.
As well as this while videoing will we alter the lighting, this way again we maybe able to cut between different types of shot in our video to make the video more interesting and also give it a different effect throughout the video
In this shoot we will also be trying out different types of camera equipment, we will defiantly be using the track in the video to do the different types of movement throughout the video. We also have the idea to use the jib in our video to see what we can do with movement shots from the floor upwards; this can be smoothly done using jib unlike using hand held footage.

Steadicam Testing

Today I set up the Steadicam using a Sony HVR-Z5E, The end footage for using a steadicam should look like the following video:

Unfortunately, we couldn't get the exact effect as seen above, although it did enable the group to see how the system is set up and how to calibrate it for different model of cameras.

Here is some of the footage we recorded while using the steadicam.

Stedi Cam

For our footage we decided to experiment with a stedicam, we did some test shots with this device to see how the footage turned out.

Overall we found the equipment hard to use this was because of a lack of our knowledge useing the stedi cam as none of us had really used it before and also because of the lack of clear instructions available for the device. After a bit of experimenting with it we found that it was quite unsable and Alex made some fine adjustment to the stedicam to try and make it more steady and not tilt around as much this did help and made it alot more smoother in the movements it made but did not sure it completely.

After finally adjusting it so that it was better we decided to give it a try by going down some stairs a man on youtube had done with with a similar setup and had received some great results, on our attempt though some of the footage was really jerky. After doing this we tried again by doing some down the road again tweaking the stedi cam so that it is more stable when we were walking.

Here is a picture of the stedi cam that we used to try this footage

Track Testing

Me and Dan went out of college today to go and test out the camera track at different locations. This involved us carrying a 1.5M long Box with the track inside, dolly, HD video camera & tripod.

We went to the church not far away from our college to start of with, as it was a quiet place we wouldn't be in the publics way. The set up of the equipment seemed to be faster than we thought it would be. We got the whole equipment set up in less than 2 minutes.

We recorded two versions at this location, one of me being the actor, and one of dan being the actor. This made it sure we both had chance behind the camera and use of the equipment.

We then moved location to a new property area, which has new modern buildings we thought would be good for the backdrop.

Camera Test Shots

This week, we have been experiences internet problems at college, all the way down to dial up speed!!!
Me and another member of my group Dan Haycocks, decided that we would come back to my house to collect my HD camera, and do a few test shots to upload onto the blog at my house.

These shots are not relevant and will not be used in are final video, it just gave us both a chance to test out the equipment that we would be using to film. Although the telephone POV shot we might use in our actual video. (Still to be decided)
