Magazine Adverts

Before we started creating a magazine advert we went about looking at various magazine adverts that were all ready available and in magazines. To do this we bought a selection of magazines these were a variety of different genres so that we could see different adverts. This included NME, Uncut, Kerrang and Mojo.

This advert was the backpage of the magazine, it is advertiseing a album for a band called elbow. This is a alternative rock band, this is the same genre as our band the stereophonics.

The advert is a very simple advert and contains no actual photos of the band its self or even actually any real photos at all. The advert is interlay made up of illustrations and has no real photos on it.

The font on the poster starts off with the band name, this is in red and is also bold on the poster it is also the biggest text. This makes it stand out alot and straight away grabs the attention of the person about what the video is about.

The other text that is bold is also the date it is released this is standing out again to let people know when the album will be available.

Codes and Conventions of a magazine advertisement for Music Albums

We researched magazine adverts for albums before we created our own. I researched what the codes and conventions were of magazine adverts:

  • The band/artist will appear on the advert
  • The artist name will appear on the adverts
  • Album artwork will appear somewhere on the advert
  • The album name will be on the advert
  • The band logo  normally appears on the advert
  • The music company logo will be displayed on the advert
  • The realise date will almost always appear on the advert normally near the bottom
  • The CD cover will also be displayed on the advert
  • It will have its own colour scheme that doesn't reflect the magazines own colour scheme
  • Some have a catchy tag line

Once we looked at the codes and conventions of magazine adverts we then looked at an advert in a magazine at a few adverts. I then analysed a few of the magazine adverts and pointing out all the codes and conventions that have been used.

Video Shoot Plan (Narrative)

Date: January 17th
Time: 10am
Location: Shrewsbury, Whitchurch and surrounding areas
Props: Band type t-shirt
Attendees: Dan Haycocks, Alex Pickering
Equipment: Sony HDV Camera, Tripod, Track, Dolly, Stills Camera
Plan: Our plan is to get the outdoor shots needed for our narrative based video, we were originally going to use the same actor as our studio scenes but the actor for some reason has not replied to any contact. If we left it any later we risk missing the deadline so we decided to use Dan for this part of the video. The storyline is about someone who hates there life and wishes there life away for tomorrow. To show this we are going to have alot of movement shots, we have decided to include a number of time lapses in our video these are of the sky and also of cars. This we liked as this shows time going past. We are also going to include some jump cuts in the video again this is to shot time going past, we think these would work best when the actor is going towards the camera from a far distance again showing him wasting his life away.

Along with this we have also brought the track and dolly with us to try and get some movement shots, we have experimented with this outside and while it was good found it took alot of time to setup but also was very hard to cary long distances. We will though were the ground is smooth try and use this.

Blog: Whats going on ?

With Christmas coming up and various other students having to get work completed for christmas the video has been delayed slightly. This is mainly as i say due to the equipment but also because our actor has exams, for the narrative scenes we will be videoing these after christmas on January the 12th.

To keep us busy while that takes place we have got some photos of our actor from the studio footage so we will not look at magazine adverts and the codes and conventions behind them and then start making our own.

How we used Final Cut to Edit

This is a quick follow up blog to show how we edited the studio based footage on final cut pro.
You have properly seen the studio footage edit now. This video below will show you how we used MultiClip Editing in film cut pro to help us choose from the 5 camera shots we had available to choose from.

Studio Music Video Edit

After shooting the studio footage of the track completely 5 times, we have a full version of the music video with just the studio footage. Cutting between the different 5 cameras.
We have a series of photos below that we took on my phone showing some of the set up in the studio. The first photo is of the professional studio lighting system we used. The including 5 lights in total around the performer. You can see two of the lights in the second photo. In this second photo you can see the microphone stand and XLR cable we used to add realism to the studio recording. As if you are recording in a  studio you would not be able to record audio from the mic without a cable. This gives the impression that we are live recording the performer in this scene.
The third photo is showing my laptop setup on Spotify to allow us to play the Sterophonics track in the background while recording, which helped us and the performer lip sync up to the original track. We placed the laptop behind the curtain, connected up the audio speakers in the room.

The final two photos show the camera we used in shot. (A Sony HDV-Z5E) This was placed onto a tripod then on the track we had practiced with before. This allowed us to produce lovely sweeping side to side shots. Which gave interest into each shot. As you can see in the photo on the left, Dan is adjusting the light high to make sure there isnt too much lens flare on the camera, and giving the performer more light from behind. I am also in the shot adjusting another light further around the room to give the performer more light from the side (lighting up the side of his face). The photo on the right shows me recording one of the five takes that we did. I am adjusting the shutter speed on the camera, as because there were soo many lights, it was making the recorded image washed out, so using a high shutter speed frame rate it reduced the washed out effect in the video.

Below is the studio edit of our music video.

Risk Assessment

As usual before shooting any video for media, we completed a risk assessment based on the location we will be filming at. This outlined all the risks we might face when shooting the video, and any measures we can do to minimise the risk of it happening.
Below is a copy of the risk assessment for our music video.

Costume/Prop Ideas

Before we started to plan our video we came up with some ideas on what we had for what the singer would be wearing in our video and also what props we may like to use.

This is the band that our track is done by (The Stereo phonics) as you can see they wear quite a casual dress with t-shirt and jeans. We have decided that for our video the singer would be best wearing casual cloths like this for the studio based footage defiantly. We would then review it for the location based footage when we made our prop list for the day.

The Singer will ideally for this be very similar dressed to the band as this is what many of our target audience wear. The type of cloths we plan for our singer to be wearing is T-shirt, Trainers, Jeans and maybe a hooded jumper. This will fit our genre well and replicate the style of our genre well.
For our studio footage we decided in the meeting that we would like to re create a live gig situation for the singer. This means that in the video we would like a mic and microphone stand to be present as well as being plugged in for realism sake.

This image to the right is of one of the member of the stereo phonics, this is the same type of image that we wish to create with the mic and mic stand. We are still debating weather to have a guitar in the video or not and if we do wether it should be acoustic or electric but we will decide on this at a later date.

For the video we have also decided that we would like the lights visible in the background. We feel this gives a nice effect on the black curtain especially on a highlight were the singer blocks the light giving a halo glow around the singer. A image below is the type of thing that we wish to have in our video.

Now that we have decided a few elements that we would like in the video for the studio footage we will go about storyboarding this part of the video ready for filming. This plans on this post may be subject to change but as it stands these are the plans that we have for the video. The final decision will be made in the Filming Brief and plan as well as the prop list for that day.

Video Shoot Plan

Location: Town hall Studio
People Needed: Alex Pickering, Dan Haycocks, Darryl Taylor
Equipment Needed: Camera, 3 Point Lighting, Track, Dolly, Jib, Black Backdrop,
Plan: The Plan for Tuesday is to film the studio based footage for the video; this is being done in the town hall studio using the 3 point lighting system. We plan to use our video a Key light, fill light and then a hair light to give extra effect behind the actor, This will give a ghost light effect for the actor.
When videoing we are going to run through the video multiple times videoing in different styles. The plan is to at least go through once doing only close up shots and then again doing long shots. This way when editing we will have a variety of different shots to edit between.
As well as this while videoing will we alter the lighting, this way again we maybe able to cut between different types of shot in our video to make the video more interesting and also give it a different effect throughout the video
In this shoot we will also be trying out different types of camera equipment, we will defiantly be using the track in the video to do the different types of movement throughout the video. We also have the idea to use the jib in our video to see what we can do with movement shots from the floor upwards; this can be smoothly done using jib unlike using hand held footage.

Steadicam Testing

Today I set up the Steadicam using a Sony HVR-Z5E, The end footage for using a steadicam should look like the following video:

Unfortunately, we couldn't get the exact effect as seen above, although it did enable the group to see how the system is set up and how to calibrate it for different model of cameras.

Here is some of the footage we recorded while using the steadicam.

Stedi Cam

For our footage we decided to experiment with a stedicam, we did some test shots with this device to see how the footage turned out.

Overall we found the equipment hard to use this was because of a lack of our knowledge useing the stedi cam as none of us had really used it before and also because of the lack of clear instructions available for the device. After a bit of experimenting with it we found that it was quite unsable and Alex made some fine adjustment to the stedicam to try and make it more steady and not tilt around as much this did help and made it alot more smoother in the movements it made but did not sure it completely.

After finally adjusting it so that it was better we decided to give it a try by going down some stairs a man on youtube had done with with a similar setup and had received some great results, on our attempt though some of the footage was really jerky. After doing this we tried again by doing some down the road again tweaking the stedi cam so that it is more stable when we were walking.

Here is a picture of the stedi cam that we used to try this footage

Track Testing

Me and Dan went out of college today to go and test out the camera track at different locations. This involved us carrying a 1.5M long Box with the track inside, dolly, HD video camera & tripod.

We went to the church not far away from our college to start of with, as it was a quiet place we wouldn't be in the publics way. The set up of the equipment seemed to be faster than we thought it would be. We got the whole equipment set up in less than 2 minutes.

We recorded two versions at this location, one of me being the actor, and one of dan being the actor. This made it sure we both had chance behind the camera and use of the equipment.

We then moved location to a new property area, which has new modern buildings we thought would be good for the backdrop.

Camera Test Shots

This week, we have been experiences internet problems at college, all the way down to dial up speed!!!
Me and another member of my group Dan Haycocks, decided that we would come back to my house to collect my HD camera, and do a few test shots to upload onto the blog at my house.

These shots are not relevant and will not be used in are final video, it just gave us both a chance to test out the equipment that we would be using to film. Although the telephone POV shot we might use in our actual video. (Still to be decided)

Storyboards

This is our storyboard for the video, while we aim to keep on track with these we may include a few extra shots if they fit nicely into our video. This is both the studio and narrative shots combined how we think they will cut in and interweave each other.

Treatment

For the treatment we started writing it up but then we decided it wasn't very multimedia so we used Prezi. We got pictures of the location using Google Streeview to make it more multimedia. It also displays the treat in a better way because it is easier to understand and it makes it look better. The reason we did a treatment was so we know the different scenes of the music video.

Written Treatment

Now that i have created a audio pitch of what is going to happen in our video we have now done a written version outlining our plans and what we are going to do for the video. This is the story line for the video.

The treatment for our video is going to be about someone who wishes for tomorrow to come as he does not like his life today. The video will feature the man walking around streets just waiting time for time to guy buy, along this there will be time lapse footage this is showing the day going buy and showing

Music Consumption

The way music is consumed is for every changing.
Music is now not just on radio and CD, but there are an every growing list of music channels on cable and satellite.
There are services such as youtube, Spotify, iTunes store and even artists websites with more and more multimedia content been available for audience consumption.
YouTube

Youtube is becoming the most popular way people are watching and share music videos. It is available on many different platforms. Mobiles, iPads, Apple TV, Game Consoles and even some Blu-Ray players and TV's have a youtube player built in them.
Vevo is a Music Video Distributer that is a joint venture between Sony Music, Universal Music Group, Abu Dhabi Media which has EMI licensing to its content. Vevo hosts its music videos on YouTube which is accessible in the UK & other continues, countries without access to the content will get a message saying 'This video contains content from VEVO, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds'. This service is a good way of making music videos available on-demand.
Stereophonic's use Youtube to share their music videos across selected countries. Sterophonic's Youtube Video Playlist - This is to the thanks of VEVO.
Spotify
Spotify has become popular services which is growing in users by the day. It is a swedish DRM-based music streaming service offering unlimited streaming of music from major and independent record label including Sony, EMI, Warner Music Group & Universal.
Spotify is available on a wide verity of platforms, Windows, Linux, Mac, iPhones, Android devices, Symbian (Nokia Phones), Windows Mobile & Palm Devices. This making it accessible to virtually anyone with a smartphone and laptop.
The services is free to stream music, although adverts will play between tracks (aprox. every 15 minutes of listening). Users can pay for a premium account, which allows for offline listening, no adverts, and steaming via their phone.

Location Research

Me and dan meet up at my house to discuss some places for the location of the narrative based footage. Instead of going out on the bikes to look at locations we used google street view, meaning we could search further afield to where we can bike to today.
Below is a series of locations we are thinking of using.

Nantwich:
A very quiet area, and some long paths we could do some jump cuts with.

Audlem
Another quiet area, with a powerful looking church, could be used for a good backdrop.

Prees
A really local place to us. We could shoot some footage under the bridge, and some shots of the actor sitting down on the platform on the bridge.

Genre and Target Audience

The genre of the music that we have chosen is rock and brit pop. We chose this genre because it is very popular and it appeals to a wide range of audience. It is suitable for teenagers and the older generation but it is mainly aimed at teenagers. The original music video has currently 439,174 views on youtube so it is successful and popular.
Our target audience is predominantly teenagers because I think that they can relate to it more because its modern and new.
After our target audience research it was very popular with older teenagers and the older audience.
To found out our audience we did some research by giving a questionnaire to a range of people to find out what audience they think will like it the most.

Audience Research Feedback

After asking questions to members of my media group who like the stereophonics as well as the stereophonics forum i have collated the results that i gathered and have made. We found in our research that most of the people we are asked were of the male gender, and of the age between 25 and 30 this is therefore our target audience that we will focus on when making the video.

Our people that we asked said that they did not partially like the original video, this was mainly because the video was hard to follow. This straight away told us that for our product we would need the storyline to be simple if we were going to do a narrative based video. Our focus group did say though they liked the black and white effect in the video. In inital discussions with the group we had considered a effect on the video and since finding this out we have decided that we will do some testing useing a effect to see what it looks like on our product.

To find out what sort of video our target audience want we asked them if they wanted a narrative based video, a perfomance based video or a bit of both. From what our target audience said most of them prefer like the original video a narrative and performance based video. This is the idea that we had from the start and in line with what we had thought about doing, so for our product we product

Audiance Research

For our product we first before drawing up ideas, We first started looking at what our target audience was and what we could do to meet our target audiences requirements. To do this we first did a google search, while doing this we found there official website as well as a fans forum. This allowed us to see a insight about the sort of people who are fans of the stereophonic as well as what a typical stereophonic fans likes and dislikes.

To do the research we posted a thread of the forum with a number of questions, these question asked the fans about what they wanted to see in the video and also any ideas that they had for our video. The questions we asked them are below and we will do a follow up post showing what we have found out.

1. Are you male or female ?
2. What age are you ?
3. Do you like the original video for "Maybe Tomorrow" ?
4. What do you like about the original video ?
5. What do you dislike about the original video ?
6. Would you prefer a narrative based video a performance based video or a mixture of both ?
7. Would you like any extra footage (EG Michael Jackson's Thriller) ?

These questions will be asked to fans as well as normal members of the class to get a accurate answer of what our audience want weather they are die hard fans or just people who like the same genre.

Permission Request

Now that we have decided on what track we will be using we sent a letter to the Stereophonics record label. The reason we did this was to ask permission to the groups label to make sure that it was fine that we used there music in our video.

We explained in the letter about what we needed the track for and how we would be using the track, as well as a background about what we are doing in our media lessons.

Below is a copy of the letter.

Thursday, 1 July 2010

This is the music track that we have chosen to make a music video for. The original music video is filmed in black and white and it is set in the past. It is mainly set in corridors with loads of straight lines.
The paste is quite slow which suggests the audience is relaxed and calm. This follows the name of the song because the name suggests that they don't do things today they do things tomorrow. There are a few pans and tracking shots in the original music video. The opening shot is of a close up of a door and a man taking a sign off the door handle. It tracks up the to the mans face and him shutting the door.
The next shot is of a corridor with loads of straight lines which draw the eyes to the end of the corridor.
Then there is an over the shoulder shot of someone writing something down. It the cuts to a shot of the person thats writing with a guitar which suggests that he is writing music. We then see a medium close up a metronome ticking away which suggests that it is set in the past and it shows that time is passing.
It then goes into focus on the back of the metronome and then it fades to black and a transition is used to go to the next shot of a road and it quickly cuts back to the corridor we saw before and we can see a sign on the left wall saying stage which suggests that they are about to go and preform on a stage.  Then a POV shot is used as they walk down the corridor and it goes to a tracking shot of three men with guitars it then cuts to a high angle shot of a man with no top on and starts walking down a corridor. It then cuts to another man with a white shirt on a guitar in his hand. It is a mid camera angle and there is low lighting and the man in the white shirt is lit up to show he is the most important thing in the scene.
Then we see a woman in a black shirt which symbolises a maid. The camera is positioned behind the woman and tracks behind her as she walks.
Then a POV shot is used as we see another maid walking past and it quickly cuts to another POV shot of someone typing on a type writer.
We then see a medium close up a guitar and a mic stand. We will be using a mic stand in our music video as well.
The next shot is of a of a room and the props suggest that it is a dressing room because of the way the room is lit and the mirrors on the wall. It then pans across and then there is an picture effect where it is quickly edited to show different still shots. Then there is a medium close up of a a bin and the man opens it and we see his reflection. It cuts to the same shot as we saw before of the road. this is used as a time laps. The next shot is of the man we saw before standing in a wind. This shot is framed so the man is in the centre of the frame and he is looking down which shows that he is powerful. The next shot is an a high angle shot which pans up as the man runs up the stairs and the end of the shot shows a theatre type building with a stage and seats facing it. A high angle tracking shot goes on to the stage and it pans across to show everyone coming on stage.
The end scene is of a tracking shot which is going backwards down the corridor.
We are going to use the tracking shots and studio take in our own music video that we are going to create.

'Example' Music Comparison

Example - Kickstarts

Example - Won't Go Quietly

For this post I am going to compare two music videos from the same artist and same genre.

The two tracks are ‘Kickstarts’ and ‘Won’t Go Quietly’ by ‘Example’. Both being in the genre category of dance and chart music. They are well known tracks by most young people. The first comparison of the two videos are that the first one is all narrative based in a big home/ building, and the second video (Won’t go quietly) is performance based.

The ‘Wont go quietly” video is about a girl having a dream about what happened before she feel asleep. It shows us dancing at a night club to the artist “example” and then at the end waking up in bed with him.

The other video is about a couple of people, and for each verse of the track it contains video footage relevant to the lyrics. As for the chours, I am unsure and don’t understand the logic behind showing different head/ top part, body, and legs. (sometimes its money for a head, or folks for legs. To the audience its clear they are trying to create a persons body, but its not clear why they used those props.

Camera Shots:

Both videos tend to use mid shots, which give the audience enough to see who the actors in the video are, but also see where the video is set in. ‘Kickstart’ uses a close up of peoples feet tapping to the beat, and contains other close up of hands, eyes and other features which relate to the video.

Editing:

The first use a lot of split screen editing, showing more than one camera at once. Sometimes up to 16 different shots. Then use of these shots flicking off to reveal the main video at 15seconds is a very good editing transition. The second video uses mainly cut shots, but some dissolve transitions.

Sound:

There is no diagetic sound in the ‘kickstarts’ video, it is the entire original record track. In the other video, the only diagetic sound we hear is the girl screaming at the end, as she wakes up from her dream.

Music Video Analasis

As well as comparing videos from the same genre I have also looked at videos individually. The first video I looked at on its own and analysed was Oasis – Stop crying your heart out. This was again from the English rock genre and also again from the 90’s, the video is a mix of both performance and narrative based.

The video starts off with a match being stuck we then see a image of the band this is showing us that straight away the video is a mixture of both performance and narrative. After this we then see the bands lead singer and then a shot of were they are playing. From this we can tell that it is either a studio or somewhere like a tv studio were they are performing. We then go into some of the narrative based, again from this we can tell that the setting is in a city we can tell this because of the large billboards that are displayed around the actor. As we carry on into the video more we see that it is a tv studio because of the lighting.

The band in the video follow the typical 90’s English rock look, this is apparent with there hair and they way they dress. The actor is the video also follows a 90’s look but this is more with a afro hair, this is not a typical English rock look but this is because she is not actually in the band.

The camera work in the video contains a lot of close up shots, these are usually shots of the lead singer but there are also close us of the actor. Some of the shots have movement in them these are in the form of dolly shots or in the studio more tracking shots. As well as this in the video there are also various pan shot. In the studio shots some sort of filter has been placed over the camera, this looks like it is either a tobacco or a red filter, this make it look like a old tv. In the city shots on the other hand they have used a graduated filter, this brings out the blue in the sky for the video. They also in both purposely try and get lens flare by putting the camera on a angle to the light source, in the studio this is tbe artificial stage lighting while the narrative uses the sun to get the flare.

Throughout the video they have put on a old TV effect, this is in the form of the filters and also in the editing they have overlaid a mask to make a old rounded rectangle 4:3 tv like the first tvs were. The editing of the video uses a lot of jump cuts jumping between the narrative and the performance videos, the pace of the editing throughout the video is quite slow as this fits in with the song that is also quite slow.

Music Video Comparison

The two videos I am comparing are Ian brown’s stelify and The Verve – bitter sweet symphony, these two tracks both have very similar idea for the video this involves the singer walking and the camera following the. This though has been created very different by the way the video is set and has been shot and edited.

The first major difference between the videos is the setting the verves video is based in a inner city this is very different to the Ian brown video that starts off in a small side street that does not have much action Unlike the setting the verve have used Ian brows video is not very built up and seems to look like a run down area. Were they walk is also very different, Ian brown because it is down a side street walks in the middle of the road, the verve singer on the other hand uses the pavement. This adds to the video for the verve as because of all the passers by it create the “Candid” look they wanted as though the film crew are not really there and he is just walking down the street singing.

The costume of the singers of both videos is very similar; this is because it is the typical 90’s English Rock look that both bands are. This look can be found in many other 90’s English rock bands such as oasis. The look the both go with is a leather jacket with a t-shirt and trousers, as well as there dress there hair is also very similar, again this is following the typical 90’s English rock look.

In both videos they used a number of props and actors, these are very different each video. Ian browns video slowly introduces a brass band towards the middle and end of the video, this is because of the marching theme the video has all the way though. The verve videos on the other hand have actors on the street that come running up to the singer and started at him. This is very different to ian browns video who just uses random people of the street as the video was done at a busy time purposely to get reactions of the people.

The camera shots in both videos are pretty similar, they use a lot of close up shots and mid shots to show the singer and most shots are done with a dolly to get the movement. The Ian brown video though unlike the verve’s video has more long shots in it. This is mainly at the start to show Ian walking alone by himself but is also used in the street to show the brass band as well as all the on lookers as well. In Ian browns video as well quite a lot of attention is brought to the brass band and also random people in the street using “candid” shots. The verve on the other hand is more focuses on the singer; they do though use a point of view shots in a couple of places unlike the Ian brown video that doesn’t use any.

The editing of the videos is very similar; it uses a very quick pace editing technique in both videos as the singers make there way though the street. The ian brown video does differ from the verve video though as it uses in some places they used jump cuts as well as in the street scenes use some special editing using slow motion.

Analyzing music videos

Before we started making our video we analyzed some music videos so that we knew the type of things that music videos include as well as there codes and conventions. To start i first looked at 2 videos from the same genre of music, these were Justice - We Are Your Friends and Fat Boy Slim - weapon of choice.

The first thing i looked for in the video was the setting, these were very different between the 2 videos, while the fatboy slim video was in a nice hotel the justice one was in a futuristic sort of room all in white with alot of things stacked. The justice setting is more typical of the electronic genre as they tipally use quite futuristic settings. The costume that the actors wear in each of the videos are very different, the justice video has very strange and futuristic clothing while the fatboy sim video has more traditional buisness dress in a suit. This is very unusual for a electronic genre that usually has more like the justice video.

The camera work in both of the videos are very similar they have a number of close up shots as well as longer shots in both of the videos. Also both of them use alot of movement in there shots this is more so with the fat boy slim video as it uses movement all the time to follow the actor. The editing is also very similar in the two videos it is pretty fast cutting and uses jump cuts quite alot. In both videos there is also a element of slow motion, this is partially viewable in the justice video were the cat hits the man. This is pretty common in electro but usually used more in performance based ones were the DJ is on the decks.

B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars "Nothin On You" Analysis

B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars "Nothin On You"

This is the video that I am going to analyse for the media project. The reason I have picked this video to analyse is because of the editing that has been used to make the video is unique, and is different from most of the other music videos that I have seen.
A lot of mid shots are used in the video which only shot above the shoulder and that shows facial expressions.
The editing is very quick as it uses lots of pictures to make the music video and all the shot have the singer in the middle. It uses lots of different images put together to make the video.
The lighting is focused on the singers head which makes him stand out and show the audience his expressions.

The Killers Music Comparison

The establishing shot in the first killers video is a close up of some wires in a desert. It is a low angle show of the wires and it moves up to show a letter K. The establishing shot in the second music video is another low angle shot of a man. This camera angle is used to make the man look big and powerful so we know he is important in the music video. The colours used in the first music video are most yellows which represents sand and in the second video it is shot in black and white. The costume that the man is wearing in the second music video make the man stand out more than the rest of the scene because he's wearing a very strong black.
The sound is both videos is just of the music track that the video is for. At the start of the first music video we hear one of the directors talking which is diagetic sound.
The setting for both music videos are similar because they are both set in deserted places which no one around.

David Guetta & Chris Willis Ft. Fergie & LMFAO – No Gettin’ Over you

A popular track that has been recently launch this year is “No Gettin’ over you”

It’s comes under the popular / dance music genre. There is both a narrative and performance sections featured in this video. It starts of with the artist performers recording there track in a recording studio with the music producer adjusting the levels on the mixer.

We see him write a tweet on his mobile, which latter on in the video lets people know where he is recording this track. But we do see the twitter start up page and also the Samsung mobile logo on his phone, which was most likely used to promote their services and devices in the video.

The narrative of the music starts when the bass beat of the track kicks in at 40 seconds. The narrative of the video continues alongside the performance of the artists recording their track in the studio.

Camera Shots:
The shots at the start of the video are generally mid shots to show where the location is. As the narrative starts we get different shots, such as close up of the mobile phone, speakers. Then long shots of the people running down the street.

The use of depth of field it used a lot in the studio to keep your on focused on the most important part of that shot. I like the shot from 2:12 to 2:14 where the camera blurs out. It finds into the music as it quiets down for a second.

Editing:

The editing in the video is very fast paced to keep up with the beat of the video. It seems to speed up when the beat of the track is playing, unlike the start of the video that has longer shots. I cant see any effects on the video, it is a very simple cut into the next shot. Very simple but effective

Sound:

Being a typical music video there isn’t many parts of the video that has diegetic sounds. Only the start where he talks from the studio to the artists and when he pressed the space bar on the video we hear diegetic sounds. We also hear at the end of the video where everyone in the studio is cheering. Apart from that, the rest of the video contains the overly of the music track. We can tell this as at 1:28 in the video she isn’t singing, but the audio of her from the real recording is playing. She then joins back in with the original recording at 1:34

Mise en scene:

The performance part of the video is recorded in a recording studio, alongside the narrative part of the video which also happens in the studio, But some events take part outside of the studio, for example when he puts the speakers outside, and we see every running from the village.
By the looks from the outside buildings it quiet a rural village area, with not many shops, buildings and people around. But by posting his message on twitter letting people know where the recording is taking place, everyone in that area is able to go to it.
